A-TechSYN is building high-tech drones in Shannon but it’s “still waiting for the Irish customers to come”

22 October 2024

The drone maker has projects on the go with the Irish Defence Forces and chief executive Gökhan Çelik is keen to expand that line of business.

Drone firm A-TechSYN has been quietly building cutting-edge drones in Shannon after it moved its HQ to the West of Ireland from Turkey several years ago. The company builds heavy-duty drones for use in research and defence, rather than the commercial-focused delivery drones trying to capture consumers. A-TechSYN is more of a behind-the-scenes company. In one such case, it has been working on a project called Guard, funded by the government’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) to the tune of €5.1 million, with the Irish Naval Service to use drones to patrol Irish waters for any threats.

A-techSYN provides end-to-end solutions, handling everything from software development to hardware manufacturing. Their drones are used in various sectors, including defense, cargo delivery, communications, and ecological surveys. The company has also been involved in projects like maritime surveillance and combating drug smuggling.

Supported by Enterprise Ireland, A-techSYN has grown significantly, with plans to expand its revenue and operations further.
