Charlie Campbell is an editor-at-large at TIME magazine, based in the Singapore bureau, where he covers business, technology, and geopolitics across Asia.

Charlie Campbell studied philosophy at the University of Glasgow, graduating with a Master of Arts degree. After moving to Asia, he began his career as a travel writer in Thailand before joining The Irrawaddy, an exiled Burmese media organization, where he worked as a sub-editor and reporter. This period gave him firsthand experience in covering Southeast Asian politics and culture, sharpening his skills in reporting under challenging conditions.

Campbell joined TIME in 2013, initially working in the Hong Kong office as a reporter and later as an associate editor. He helped helm overnight breaking news coverage on Time.com while reporting on major regional events such as Cambodia’s turbulent elections, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, and Thailand’s military coup. Over the years, he interviewed several Asian world leaders and became a trusted voice on issues of governance, technology, and international relations.

Today, as editor-at-large, Campbell is based in Singapore and previously served as TIME’s China bureau chief. His reporting spans the intersection of business, technology, and geopolitics, with a particular focus on how Asia’s developments shape global narratives. He has authored major features, including TIME’s Person of the Year 2025 profile on the Architects of AI, reflecting his ability to connect regional dynamics with global transformations.
