Gulf News is one of the UAE’s most influential English-language newspapers, launched in 1978 and headquartered in Dubai. It began as a tabloid but struggled in its early years, with circulation as low as 3,000 copies. In 1984, the paper was acquired by Al Nisr Publishing LLC, backed by three prominent Emirati businessmen — Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Abdullah Al Rostamani, and Juma Al Majid — who relaunched it in December 1985 with a revitalized editorial vision and modern printing technology.

Over the following decades, Gulf News expanded its reach across the Gulf region and internationally, opening bureaus in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman, Manila, Al Ain, Sharjah, and New Delhi. It became known for its strong coverage of regional affairs, business, and sports, while also pioneering community initiatives such as the annual Gulf News Fun Drive and sponsorship of major events like the Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament. In 1996, Gulf News launched its online edition, becoming one of the first regional newspapers to embrace digital platforms.

Today, Gulf News remains a leading daily with wide circulation across the UAE and GCC, published in Berliner format and distributed in multiple countries. It is owned by Al Nisr Publishing, a subsidiary of the Al Tayer Group, and continues to adapt to the digital era with video news, multimedia features, and dynamic online content. With its blend of regional reporting, international perspectives, and community engagement, Gulf News has established itself as a cornerstone of English-language journalism in the Middle East.
