Andrea Shalal has worked with Reuters since 1988, beginning her career in Germany where she reported on historic events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification. Over the decades, she has covered a wide range of beats including aerospace, defense, and the military-industrial complex, reporting extensively on programs like the Boeing tanker saga and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Her assignments have taken her across Europe and the United States, giving her a unique vantage point on both transatlantic and domestic issues.

Today, Shalal serves as a White House Correspondent for Reuters, focusing on the Treasury, trade, the IMF, and the World Bank. She reports on global economic policy, development, and the intersection of U.S. politics with international finance. Her work often highlights how decisions made in Washington ripple across the world, especially in times of economic uncertainty. She has also been recognized for her breaking news coverage, including being named among Reuters Journalists of the Year in 2015.

Beyond reporting, Shalal has been a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in journalism. She helped found a diversity initiative at Reuters in the late 1990s, has taught courses on diversity and media ethics, and lectures on Arab-American literature. She also serves as a shop steward for the News Guild and chairs the Washington chapter of the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS). Her career reflects not only journalistic rigor but also a commitment to building a more inclusive media landscape.
