Today, it is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, and operates as an umbrella organization for over 200 member organizations, including National Paralympic Committees, International Federations, and regional bodies.

The IPC’s primary responsibility is the supervision and coordination of the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, ensuring they remain a premier global platform for sporting excellence. Beyond event management, the organization functions as the international federation for several Para sports, overseeing World Championships and setting technical standards. Its mission is "to lead the Paralympic Movement, oversee the delivery of the Paralympic Games, and support members to enable Para athletes to achieve sporting excellence," while its broader vision seeks to foster an inclusive world through Para sport.
