Kevin Sharkey, born 1964 in County Donegal, Ireland is a distinguished broadcast journalist with BBC Northern Ireland.

Kevin began his journalism career in 1990 at Highland Radio Newsroom in Letterkenny, County Donegal. In 1994, he made headlines by becoming the first Irish broadcaster to interview senior Sinn Féin leadership figures following the abolition of the 'Section 31' broadcasting ban.

In 2002, Kevin joined BBC News in Northern Ireland, where he has worked as a TV and radio reporter covering general news, current affairs, and politics. His reporting includes contributions to The Politics Show and BBC Newsline, focusing on stories related to the legacy of the conflict in Northern Ireland, court cases, annual commemorations, and cultural issues.

Kevin is the dedicated BBC NI News reporter for the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry and has worked across BBC Radio Ulster's current affairs programs, including Good Morning Ulster, Talkback, and Evening Extra. He has covered significant political events, such as the end of 'Operation Banner', and international events like the Smithsonian Festival in Washington DC and the 60th anniversary of a unique world record involving Irish emigrants to Scotland.

Kevin has been recognized for his excellence in journalism, winning the Radio News/Current Affairs Journalist of the Year award in 2007 and 2010.
