Tom Gliatto has been an entertainment writer for so many years, no extant record has been found that can pinpoint when he actually began his career. However, he first came to PEOPLE in 1988 as a feature writer, nearly always covering celebrities in movies or television (and—briefly—in fashion).

In those years he wrote many cover stories. This was in the heyday of producer Aaron Spelling, so the subject was often connected to Melrose Place or Beverly Hills, 90210.

He has been a TV and movie critic for PEOPLE since 2005, and also continues to write memorial tributes to stars including Joan Rivers, Chadwick Boseman and Suzanne Somers.

Experience

Tom has always been at his happiest writing reviews of movies and TV shows. Overseeing PEOPLE Magazine's PICKS section, in which he gives his assessment of what new films and TV shows are best, has preserved a sparkle in his eye that might otherwise have faded.

After receiving a Master's Degree in journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Tom worked at USA TODAY for a decade in the newspaper's Life section, as a copy editor and then as a columnist. He came to PEOPLE as a writer of celebrity news and profiles in 1988, and became a reviewer in 2005.
